Nancy, along with her former slave Minerva, take to the sea as an escape. Both are running from dangers on land and they embrace the pirate life full on. They have quite the adventure, but can they ever stop running?
I loved Pirates!. It gave me a bit of a different perspective on those who sailed the sea under the well-known black flag with the white skull and bones. I also loved it because of the main characters. Nancy and Minerva fought their fears. It wasn’t they didn’t have fears; they overcame them. Rees did a wonderful job of foreshadowing in the book too. The ending is left a bit unfinished, but that’s sort of good, I guess. It meant there were many possibilities to think about. Pirates! was a well-written book.
