Little Jane Silver

-Adira Rotstein-

Little Jane Silver is the twelve year old granddaughter of Long John Silver from Treasure Island. She grew up on the pirate ship, Pieces of Eight, with her parents, Captains Bonnie Mary Bright and Long John Silver the second. Little Jane wants to prove she is a real pirate, but she gets shoved below deck before any real action ever happens. And every time she tries to prove herself, something always goes wrong. She is also being threatened by one of the crew members, so she can’t tell anyone the dangers that lie ahead; not that they would believe her anyways. Then something happens and Little Jane is left by herself for the first time, and on top of that, with a mission to save her parents and the crew. Can she do it?

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was very creative the way Rotstein took another book’s character and made her own story out of it. As the story unfolds, more and more backstories and secrets get revealed. One thing I found kind of frustrating is the story doesn’t resolve. I’m assuming there is a sequel, but there isn’t anything to wrap up the story, it just sort of ends after the climax. Otherwise it is a very good story.
